Q&A with Robin Martin

1. Whats your yoga story? (how did you get involved, how long have you been practicing, etc.)

I was very active, but had some misconceptions about what yoga was and was reluctant to try it. After two years of urging from a friend, I finally tried yoga. I was physically and mentally challenged in a way I had never experienced before. I started with a once a week practice then, ultimately, began practicing daily and never looked back. I’ve been practicing for 17 years.

2. What’s your favorite song to practice to, or favorite playlist?

I create different playlists often as a teacher. My favorites change all the time. Currently, my favorite flow song is Stolen Dance by Milky Chance.

3. What is something you’ve learned from yoga that resonates with you the most?

I’ve learned to use breath to create calm. For someone who has suffered from anxiety, this is a tremendous tool.

4. What is your most memorable yoga experience?

That’s a tough one. Probably teaching at the Yoga Congress of Mexico in front of a huge crowd of enthusiastic, supportive yogis. The energy was palpable.

5. What destination is next on your travel list and why?

Ooooh! Another tough one! I love Asia and Indonesia, but I’ve never been to Italy or Greece. Those are definitely up there on the list.

6. If you could interview anyone who would it be and why?

Mahatma Ghandi because he truly lived the 8 limbs of yoga.

7. If you had to choose a theme song for you life, what would it be?

I couldn’t choose just one. There are too many songs that resonate with me, but I’ve never heard a song that has felt like a theme for my life.

8. If you were on a deserted island, what 3 items would you bring and why?

A lighter for fire, a water purifier and my cell phone – assuming I’d get a signal. That way I’d never get lonely. 😉 If there was no signal, a knife.

9. What’s one food you couldn’t live without?

Cheese. Though I probably should live without it. I just love it so.
