Q&A with Natasha Nikoleva

1. Whats your yoga story? (how did you get involved, how long have you been practicing, etc.)

I walked into my first yoga class a little over seven years ago, to be honest I was cursing under my breath for the first 85 minutes until Savasana came. The moment I got to lie there in total stillness and feel my physical body and mind relax I knew this was it for me. The question for another year or was, how can I make yoga a life long practice and build a career out of it? It’s always so funny to me how well the universe responds. Within a few months of asking myself that question, an incredible studio manager in San Diego, CA asked me to join their teacher training. After the first day of my training I knew this is what I would be doing for the rest of my life. I have been practicing ever since, and have been teaching for 5 years now!

2. What’s your favorite song to practice to, or favorite playlist?

Well that’s not fair! How can I pick just ONE? Currently my favorite playlist is the one I’ve personally made on my spotify 🙂

3. What is something you’ve learned from yoga that resonates with you the most?

What I’ve learned from yoga is to be happy you have to start with creating your own happiness. I didn’t realize how much yoga impacted my life until about a year into it when people started noticing I was “different”, not in a bad way! I was constantly told I had a glow, or that I seemed so much happier. Happiness comes from within and that is one of the most profound lessons that yoga has taught me.

4. What is your most memorable yoga experience?

Nailing my handstand! After 5 years of practicing it finally happened and when it did I felt like I was flying!

5. What destination is next on your travel list and why?

I recently visited Thailand and I am dying to go back! There was so much incredible energy there, it was contagious. Ever since I left I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

6. If you could interview anyone who would it be and why?

I would love to interview Lady Gaga. Her thoughts and perceptions are something that I agree with when it comes to taking care of yourself and how to treat others. She also seems like such an incredible and interesting person to chat with!

7. If you had to choose a theme song for you life, what would it be?

Love and Happiness by Al Green

8. If you were on a deserted island, what 3 items would you bring and why?

My kindle (because it has a plethora of books), sun glasses because it will probably be bright, and some sun screen. Other than that, I can find some coconuts and fish! 🙂

9. What’s one food you couldn’t live without?

SUSHI

10. What is one quote you try to live by?

“I am the only me that will ever be. I have the power to make a difference in this world. I look forward to taking on the grand adventure of life while always remembering to be myself. I love being me!”
